A native of Bethesda, Maryland, Robert Hays is an American actor, producer, and director, best known for his role as pilot Ted Striker in the film Airplane.
Hays is also known for his other works including his role as Frank in Take This Job and Shove It, Robert Seaver in Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and as the voice of Tony Stark on Iron Man.

Hays began his career in acting in San Diego where he lived before moving to Hollywood to further his career.

In the 1980 American parody film, Airplane, Hays played pilot Ted Striker. Ted is a pilot who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of the trauma he experienced during the war.
Ted is in love with Elaine Dickinson whom he met at a bar where they: “laughed, talked, danced. I never wanted it to end. I guess I still don’t.” And although he has a fear of flying, Ted is determined to get Elaine back.
He, therefore, boards a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago on which Elaine is an air hostess.
