Ginger Madden Parents
Madden is Ann’s daughter and the late Bobby Bowden’s daughter. Her father was an American college football coach. He coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University from 1976 to 2009.
Her parents married on April 1, 1949, at the town’s Justice of the Peace home. They stayed married for over 70 years until her father’s death on August 8, 2021.
During their 70th anniversary, her father said, “Marriage is give-and-take. I don’t think one of you needs to dominate. You give in to her some, and she gives into you some. It’s not a one-way street.”

Madden’s brother Tommy, was the head coach at Clemson University while Terry was the head coach at Auburn University, where he was the 1993 Coach of the Year. Her other brother, Jeff, was the offensive coordinator at Florida State.
Ginger Madden Husband and Son
Ginger was married to John Madden until January 2004 when they divorced after 22 years of marriage. That same year, John died in an accident, an accident that claimed his life and that of his 15-year-old son, Bowden Madden.
Madden and his son died after their car was hit by a utility truck that was helping to restore power outages caused by Hurricane Frances. Danny Headley, the driver of the truck was not injured.
Florida State Athletic Director Dave Hart said in a statement released by the school; “I know I speak for the entire FSU family when I say our hearts are broken by the news of the tragic deaths of John and Bowden Madden.
“Most of us have been around all of the Bowden family a great deal and it is a loss shared by all of us. Words can’t express the grieving I know the Bowdens are going through. Bobby has been a pillar of strength and faith to his players and he’ll draw on that same strength through this tragedy.”
