She is also popularly known as the mother to American actor, comedian, and game show host, Anthony Anderson.

He raised me as any father would, with love, patience, understanding, and discipline. I’m grateful because he taught me what it took to be a man. Later in 2016, Doris made appearances in three television series, Access Hollywood, Extra with Billy Bush, & The Insider. In 2017, she appeared in The Talk, Access Daily, Hollywood Today Live, Good Morning America, and Animal Nation with Anthony Anderson, among others.
As an actress, Bowman, appeared in The Truth (2010), Black-ish (2014), and Common Bond (2008). In The Truth, she played the character Flossie and portrayed the character Doris in Black-ish.
